On 11 November, the ALAVORA Project was officially presented to the fishmongers of Palamós at the Palamós Fish Space. This initiative, promoted by the Palamós Hospital Foundation – Integrated Health Services Baix Empordà (SSIBE) with the collaboration of the Palamós Fish Producers Organisation (OPP), has as its main objective to promote the consumption of local fish among health professionals and citizens, focusing on sustainability, accessibility and new technologies.

The ALAVORA project is part of the SSIBE’s healthy company programme and the Production and Marketing Plan of the Palamós OPP. Thanks to this collaboration, an innovative system has been created that allows the workers of Palamós Hospital to purchase local fish directly from the Palamós OPP’s workshop. Orders are managed through a mobile application and are conveniently collected from a refrigerated locker located in the Hospital.

This system not only guarantees the freshness and quality of the product, but also promotes healthy eating habits and helps to enhance the value of local fish, strengthening the connection between the sea and the healthcare community.

The project is a key tool for sustainability and support to the local fisheries sector. With this initiative:

  • It promotes the consumption of local produce: guaranteeing direct access to fresh, quality fish.
  • It reduces the environmental impact: minimising the ecological footprint in the distribution of fish.
  • It promotes health and wellbeing: providing a nutritional alternative of great value to the diet of health professionals.

During the presentation event, attendees were able to learn about this initiative and its benefits, thanks to a detailed explanation of the project by the promoters. The event was complemented by a special tasting of dishes prepared by the chefs of Palamós Hospital, who highlighted the quality and versatility of local fish.

This collaboration between the fishing sector and the health sector demonstrates how joint efforts can lead to initiatives that benefit both the people and the territory.
