On Monday 19th February the Multipurpose Coastal Skipper course begins at the Confraria de Palamós. It lasts one year and is divided into three training periods: from 19/02 to 27/06, from 25/09 to 13/12 and the last part at the beginning of 2025.

This is one of the different training courses offered by the Palamós Producers’ Organisation, which allows us to bring the sea and its nature closer to all those who wish to train in the fishing sector.

The Multipurpose Coastal Skipper qualification is aimed at the new generation of sailors that we have sailing on the Costa Brava in order to offer them the opportunity to take another step forward in their professional careers.

With this training they will be able to command fishing boats up to 24 metres in length between perpendiculars and 400 kW* of effective engine power, work in coastal, coastal or auxiliary aquaculture fishing and sail up to 60 miles from the coast, outside the baselines defined in accordance with Law 10/1977 of 4 January, on territorial sea and the delimitation of the straight baselines established in Royal Decree 2510/ 1977 of 5 August.

In addition, the professional opportunities par excellence of this qualification are as follows:
– Chief engineer on fishing vessels with a propulsive power not exceeding 400 kW*.
– Officer in charge of the navigational watch on coastal fishing vessels.
– Officer in charge of the engine watch on coastal fishing vessels.

Betting on the new generations and firmly believing in the way they work and the passion and desire they put into it, is to ensure a continuity of good skippers and sailors in this beloved field: the sea and fishing.

From the OPP we work every day to be able to offer the best training offer to the sailors of our coast, and thus help them to advance.
