On 17 and 18 September 2025, the Planetarium of Castellón de la Plana hosted a new edition of the Scientific Forum on Spanish Fisheries in the Mediterranean — a meeting space bringing together the fishing sector, the scientific community and public administrations to share knowledge and experiences on the sustainable management of marine resources.
The event brought together representatives of fishing organisations, producer organisations, researchers and technical experts from across Spain, including the participation of the Palamós Fish Producers’ Organisation (OPP91).
Over the course of two days, participants presented research projects and recent studies on key topics such as:
- the evolution of fish markets (lonjas) in Catalonia,
- monitoring of purse seine and demersal fisheries,
- the effects of climate change on marine resources,
- and strategies to move towards more coordinated and efficient fisheries management in the Mediterranean.
The programme also featured a roundtable on the Multiannual Plan for Demersal Resources in the Western Mediterranean, with the participation of representatives from the University of Alicante, the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC), the Regional Government of Valencia, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and WWF, among others.
These spaces for dialogue and cooperation help strengthen the link between scientific knowledge and day-to-day fisheries management, while reinforcing the commitment of the OPP of Palamós to sustainability and the future of the Mediterranean.
